WEEK 7: ENCOUNTERING GOD - PSALM 51 For Sunday - April 18, 2010
What an incredible glimpse into the broken heart of a sinner we have in Psalm 51. To at least some extent, all of us can relate with David. We see his unlikely rise from obscurity tending sheep to become arguably the most powerful leader God’s people ever knew...[more]
WEEK 6: ENCOUNTERING GOD - PSALM 90 For Sunday - April 11, 2010

WEEK 5: ENCOUNTERING GOD - PSALMS 1 AND 70 For Sunday - April 4, 2010
In life, there are only two real choices. There is no middle ground. We choose God or we choose the world (Matthew 7:13-14). Psalm one focuses on this principle. This concept stands at the beginning of the entire collection. This is a didactic hymn intending to call the worshiper to make this choice...[more]

WEEK 1: ENCOUNTERING GOD - PSALM 2 For Sunday - March 7, 2010
Psalm 2 has been coined a royal psalm due its focus on the anointing of a new Davidic king. Some believe it was read during the coronation of the king, but little evidence exist to support this. During our spring quarter from March through May, we have the wonderful opportunity to study several Psalms. This ancient Old Testament book has influenced the world through a poetic style and declares to us the love, faithfulness and holiness of God our Heavenly Father.
Psalms have guided the development of many of modern day worship songs. Many of the verses from Psalms are the most quoted of the Bible. Passages from several Psalms are quoted in the New Testament by Jesus and his disciples. The 23rd Psalm is one of the most familiar and most quoted Psalm not only for all Christians but to those coming from diverse religious backgrounds.
Reading and studying the Psalms can deeply influence our daily meditation, life and worship. We can use these verses as suggested by the writer of Deuteronomy 11:18-21 in which we are told to take God’s word fixing them in our hearts and minds, binding them as symbols on our hands and teaching them to our children. If we follow this prescription with our spring quarter study, we will be blessed beyond our own earthly hope or understanding. God's word can live in our hearts can keep us directed on our Journey of Light and Love to the Son.
When you go to each lesson section you will have an introduction to the Psalm, questions that will be discussed in class, and you will be able to listen to John Young read the Psalm. There are also links to the scripture text so you can read along with the audio recording.
